Skip the bad first round

Why every game feels bad at the start and what to do about it.

What is actually happening

Your brain is building a sense of cause and effect in the game. In the first rounds one mistake leads to another. After a while the same situation becomes predictable — and that is when the game turns good.

  • Play an easy level just to learn the rules.
  • Change only one thing per round.
  • Write down what caused the loss, not just that you lost.
  • Stop when frustrated and come back later.

Goals in order

First survive, then understand, only then score. Scoring comes last, and it comes fast after that.

Note

Not every game has an easier difficulty, so start with a simple title.
