How to play
How do you play NYT Tiles?
Tap two tiles to match them. If the two tiles share at least one visual element (color, symbol, frame, or accent), the shared element is wiped from both tiles. Continue chaining matches to clear the entire board.
What is the 4-layer system?
Every tile has 4 independent visual layers: background color, main symbol, frame style, and corner accent. Two tiles match if they share any single element across any layer. 45 unique elements (9+12+12+12) are distributed across the board.
What is a perfect clear?
A perfect clear happens when you wipe every element from every tile without ever breaking your chain. The board ends completely empty and you earn a bonus score plus a Perfect ribbon.
How does the chain combo work?
Each successful match adds 1 to your chain. Your score multiplier increases with longer chains. Selecting an empty tile does not break your chain. An invalid match (two non-empty tiles sharing nothing) resets your chain to zero.
